Top 8 New Year Resolutions

Bill Vaughan
An optimist stays up until midnight to see the New Year in. A pessimist stays up to make sure the old year leaves.

My resolutions :
  1. Keep changing cell phone after a few months is really not helping me a better understanding of gadget technology.
  2. Want to utilize current gadgets. Really don't need an iPod, iPhone and a palm at the same time.
  3. Keeping your photos from digital cameras for over 2 years is bad for hard drive space. Back it up to a DVD is a good idea.
  4. Microsoft must have good reasons and purposes for creating Chkdsk, Disk Clean Up, and Defrag in Win XP. Just lost my hard drive because not using it.
  5. Play more games. Scientists say they're good for you and improve your visual skills. But you always knew that.
  6. Always remember that these are not my computers, these are not my notebooks, this is not my personal internet connection, and I exist only to serve the needs of the company and its employees.
  7. Bosses: You can't live with them, and you can't live without them. Career and salary are in their hands. Just try to get a long with them.
  8. Try New Things. Spent all of last year bored out of your mind? Take the plunge this year and try something new. Make the most out of your year by resolving to try more new things.

My last resolution came from this dumbspot site. You can try your New Year Resolution from here.

Many people look forward to the New Year for a new start on old habits.

Legal Alien in Singapore - Day 5

Friday, 31st October 2008 It’s time to leave Singapore, and with a few hours left, I try to walk around the Changi Airport. And the GST refund makes me wonder. And the fact is tourists may claim reimbursement of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) paid on goods purchased from retailers participating in the Tourist Refund Scheme. There are eligibility criteria and conditions, but I am only aware of a minimum of $100 to claim this GST. In other words, you can get your money back after $100 per transaction outside the Changi Airport. Not all the money, only the tax you had already paid! It’s fair enough, right? Lots of shops inside this airport. For the last-minute shopping, it's more than enough, from foods, toys, chocolates, and electronic gadgets. That’s all for my trip to Singapore. I hope you can enjoy reading it too.

Legal Alien in Singapore - Day 4

Thursday, 30th October 2008 This is my last night in Singapore. I visit Bugis Junction mall to have my meal there. The food court was crowded as always. Maybe the price is not that expensive and they provide more menu variations. There are Korean, Japanese, Western, and even Nasi Padang! I pass for this one; I eat that a lot in Indonesia. So, I try my luck by choosing Nasi Curry just because I haven’t tasted anything spicy for the last 3 days. No more places to visit and I really don’t feel up to it. Must pack all my stuff and prepare all the things together. Just want to have a good sleep tonight.

Legal Alien in Singapore - Day 3

Wednesday, 29th October 2008 Yes, it’s Orchard road at night, one of Singapore's “must visit” places. And it’s shopping heaven for the ladies. I have to admit that Singaporeans have a good taste for fashion and style. But, as I walk through these crowded pedestrians, I wonder why every food courts are always full of people? Do the Singaporeans prefer this type of habit, or they simply can’t cook? Sorry, no offense, it’s only a thought. I also try the GPS maps using wireless internet when enjoying the walk. Very useful when you’re getting lost and don’t know where to go. In the end, I just felt tired after walking all the way through Orchard road. You will be amazed by the malls and plazas surrounding it. A few of them have a banner for the Halloween party and promos to attract visitors.

Legal Alien in Singapore - Day 2

Tuesday, 28th October 2008 After finishing some tasks, I was invited to have a Japanese lunch on one of the food courts in Liang Seah Street. The food tastes good. But I began to realize that everything seems to taste too sweet. Even the chili tastes sweet!. I had to buy a good old hot chili sauce with me. At night I have the time to visit the Fountain of Wealth in Suntec City. It has the setting for laser performances, as well as "live" song and laser message dedications between 8pm to 9pm. Visitors are invited to walk around a mini fountain at the center of the fountain's base for good luck. But it was bad luck for me because the show was temporarily closed for maintenance. Before leaving Suntec City I went to Carrefour to grab some snacks. And something catches my attention. As you can see from the image (it’s not my cart, it’s one of the customer carts), the shopping cart must be inserted with 1$ coin. It makes me curious. But later from one of the Singaporeans, I quite understand the fact that lots of shopping carts had been stolen and to make the customers more organized when returning the cart. Of course, you can get the 1$ back. It’s a bit odd because it’s free to use in Indonesia.

Legal Alien in Singapore - Day 1

Monday, 27th October 2008 Once again, I revisited Singapore. But arrive at the wrong time. It's Diwali (or Deepavali), a major Hindu holiday, which means a public holiday. Good for me, I can spend the whole day sightseeing in Singapore. The next stop is VivoCity. It’s a random choice; actually, I really don’t have any idea for the rest of the day. From here, I can continue this jolly time to the famous Sentosa Island. But I pass my chances. It’s a public holiday, and the queue is a long way to go. Maybe some other time. After that, I enjoy my lunch at Hog's Breath CafĂ©. The steak was a bit expensive. But taste okay. After recharging the energy, I spend the rest of the day enjoying life in VivoCity. Although I had tried the MRT a few times, I still had to get used to maps and directions or using the MRT card. You will be concerned about many warning signs, starting when you enter the station until you arrive on the platform. No smoking, no eating or drinking, no flammable materials. You will be fined! But on the other hand, the train is always lovely and clean. From VivoCity, I travel to Raffles City Shopping Mall using the MRT. You have to admit this transport is undoubtedly effective and very convenient. I enjoy another excellent meal at Thai Express. Although not quite spicy as in Indonesia, it’s still nice to have a chance to try different menus.

SyncToy

Recently, I was searching the net for a utility that would allow us to synchronize two folders between computers or on the network. There are lots of small and big application that will perform this small task, but one of Microsoft’s power toy, SyncToy turned out to be just I'm looking for.

Most common operations can be performed with just a few clicks of the mouse, and additional customization is available without additional complexity. SyncToy lets you automatically do the copying, moving, renaming and deleting between folders. Can manage multiple sets of directories at the same time. It can combine files from two folders in one case, and mimic renames and deletes in another case.

You can also combine this SyncToy to run in windows scheduler, and you'll be making automatic backups!

And besides all that, SyncToy v2.0 Beta is free to download.

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista; Windows XP
Microsoft .NET Framework v2.0
1GHz Intel P3 processor or equivalent
256MB RAM, 512MB RAM recommended
20MB free disk space

Under a Tag : Christmas Tag

I received this tag from my good friend Nafa.

What are the 5 gifts you would buy for yourself this Christmas, if you had unlimited income?

1. iPod Nano

It's the small iPod with one very big idea: Video. Now the world's most popular music player lets you enjoy TV shows, movies, video podcasts, and more. The larger, brighter display means amazing picture quality. In five eye-catching colors, iPod nano is stunning all around.

2. Philips 7" Digital Frame, Alarm, Radio & MP3 player
  • 7" color display for easy viewing of clock, radio & calendar
  • Wake up to sounds of nature and start a fresh new day
  • Preloaded relaxation music lets you fall asleep peacefully Multimedia at your fingertips
  • USB and SD card slots for photos and music
  • Enjoy music or radio channels while photo viewing
  • Your favorite photo or image by your bedside Easy to use
  • Gentle wake with increasing alarm volume
  • FM digital tuning with presets -Dual alarm time
3. BT Internet Radio

With more and more homes benefitting from high speed internet access, the BT Internet Radio is a must have this year! This nifty little radio offers the music lover access to over 5000 radio stations from countries around the world. It can be placed anywhere within the home as it works with your existing wireless setup. What's more you can even use it to play the music stored on your PC.

4. Create a computer network over electricity mains

When a wireless network isn't an option and the last thing you want are messy wires running all over your house, the PowerLine HD Ethernet Starter Kit from DLink is just the ticket. By simply attaching one adapter from your router into your existing electrical system (literally plugs into your electricity socket), you can turn any power outlet in your home into a possible network connection. No drilling, no mess!

5. Control all devices from one single remote

How many separate remote controls are cluttering up your home? There's probably one for the TV, stereo, DVD player and your Sky or cable box. Maybe you also have a projector or home theatre kit? Perhaps your lighting or even your curtains have a remote too! Now you can control everything from one single remote - our favourites are the Logitech Harmony Remote 555, which is pre-programmed to understand the controls of most Home AV kit so you don't have to programme it.

And I would like to tag my marvelous friends : Zee, WinnieYong, Shiera, Levian, Katherine

How to print DOS program to USB printers

If you still using the same old DOS program, printing all the reports using the USB printer is a major pain. Nowadays, printer port such as LPT1 is really hard to find. Especially when using laptop or notebook. Yesterday I finally got this problem on one of the client that still using the DOS program. After trying to solve the suitable ways to handle this problem, I found this software called DOSPRN.

This program is designed to support a DOS-program printing to modern inkjet and laser printers. Many inexpensive printers can't print in text-mode, but print in graphic-mode only (so called GDI-devices). Also, old (and some newer) DOS-programs were created on the basis of a text-mode matrix printer. In addition, many printers can't support the native languages in text-mode. DOSPRN helps to get over this problem. You can use it with DOS-programs and customize any printer.

DOSPRN really helps to extend the life of old DOS programs.

I already try the software and it works out great.

You can try visiting their homepage at http://www.dosprn.com

CommunicAsia 2007
